Most aligners are made of a plastic called polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). PMMA is also used to make Plexiglas, acrylics, synthetic gems, and lenses. It’s transparent, durable, and strong. Some aligners are made of polyethersulfone (PES), which is often used in food containers. While PES aligners are transparent, they’re not as strong as PMMA ones, so they may break if misused or chewed on by young children. They may also be less comfortable because they’re stiffer than other materials.
Our uses KFlex a muti-layered marterial which consists of a combination of high-performing materials with three layers in a dual-shell structure. The material combines an inner shell and an outer shell. The inner shell is tough and grips the teeth firmly to exert a firm and sustained force on the teeth and move them in a precisely controlled manner. KFlex has a flexible elastomer core and hard-elastic double shells that ensures highest accuracy and patient comfort throughout the treatment.
KFlex offers 3D elastic properties which means, that forces applied in any direction – including rotational forces – receive the rebound response engineered into the material.
On average, it exerts 40% lower insertion forces than conventional aligner materials, which greatly reduces pain. It keeps the forces exerted for more than 7 days. This ensures the maximum potential of the plastic is utilized to push teeth on the planned course.
